Essence was written in 2018 for an school assignment. My crew and I since the beginning knew that we wanted to make something bigger than what was expected from us.

As art students, back then we were studying impressionist artists and the meaning behind they artwork. I was genuinely inspired by Henri Matisse and his unique use of colour. I decided to create a metaphor with this knowledge and here is where our main characters are created.

Amelia and Hugo have known each other since they are little but Amelia just realised that she has feelings for Hugo. I knew I wanted a love declaration but I didn't want a common one. I decided to use Matisse technique when it comes to the use of colour as a way for Amelia to express how she feels.
